The IT resume template for people with no IT experience

One column, readable by the software, with a note in every section telling you what goes there. Plus a filled-in example and the eight fixes on one page.

My home lab got me my first IT job. On my resume, it was one line at the bottom, under “interests”.

I sent sixty-plus applications. I stopped counting. Most of them never replied. When I finally got in the room, the lab is what I talked about, and it’s what got me the job. On paper I’d filed it next to my hobbies.

This is the layout I’d use today. The lab goes in a Projects section above your work history, written like work, and your old job gets translated into words IT recognises. It’s a Word document, so you can actually edit it.

What you get

  • An editable Word template: single column, standard headings, safe for applicant tracking systems
  • A filled-in example: a (made-up) career changer’s resume, rewritten with all eight fixes
  • The eight fixes from the video on one page, with the lab bullet formula
  • A “before you send it” checklist, because the last five minutes matter

Tier 1 · Get it read
